My 15 Favorite Clean Beauty Products From Follain

Making the switch to clean beauty can be daunting. Learning which ingredients are potentially toxic and reading long product ingredient labels can be time consuming and intimidating.

Luckily, as clean beauty has become more mainstream, stores have opened up that are ENTIRELY clean beauty. A few of these are Credo Beauty, The Detox Market, and, of course, Follain!

The Irish Gaelic word “follain” means healthy, wholesome, and sound. Follain was the first clean beauty shop I turned to and remains one of my favorites because:

• It is female founded (by Tara Foley)
• It is Boston based, which is local to me (the original brick and mortar store is in the South End)
• They have a rigorous approval process for their products

I love that when I shop at Follain, I am not only buying products that are good for me, but I am also supporting a business with so many amazing qualities!

Clean Skincare Products

Ursa Major is a Vermont based clean skincare company that makes simple, no-nonsense products that do their jobs well. Their slogan is “you are the active ingredient” and their products complement a healthy and active lifestyle.

• Ursa  Major Fantastic Face Wash

  • I love this face wash and I’ve gotten my mom hooked on it too! A little bit goes a long way and it creates a nice lather that leaves your skin feeling really clean, without drying it out. It has a light and refreshing scent too!

• Ursa Major Force Field Daily Defense Lotion

  • This is the perfect morning moisturizer, as it contains SPF 18 for everyday protection against the sun (however, if you’ll be spending a long period of time in direct sunlight, you should use sunscreen as well).

• Ursa Major Fortifying Face Balm

  • This face “balm” is another lovely everyday moisturizer that is very light and has a unique texture that is more like a serum than a lotion. It absorbs SUPER fast and has a light, fresh scent.

OSEA Malibu is a female founded company that creates clean skincare products that harness the skin healing power of the sea and seaweed. One of my favorite aspects of OSEA’s products is that they are plastic-free and come in glass bottles!

• OSEA Vitamin C Probiotic Polish

  • This is a coarse powder that you can mix with water (or your favorite facial cleanser!) and rub in gentle circles over skin to exfoliate it! I like to exfoliate about once a week, especially before applying a face mask. Regular exfoliation also leaves a nice, smooth canvas for make-up!

• OSEA Ocean Cleanser

  • This is another cleanser I like that works well on my combination, acne-prone skin. It is lightweight and has a nice, refreshing scent.

• OSEA Blemish Balm

  • This is a lightweight, but hydrating, moisturizer that is feels more like a true lotion. It is great for use day or night, and is ideal for oily or acne prone skin!

Cocokind is a female founded company that makes simple and affordable clean skincare products.

• Cocokind Turmeric Spot Treatment Stick

  • This is a super gentle spot treatment for acne and/or acne scars. You can apply it and leave it on for hours, or even apply a face mask over it. The longer you leave it, the more effective it will be! You also get the best results with continued use. Just be careful not to touch it – the turmeric will stain!

• Cocokind MyMatcha Stick

  • This hydrating stick can be used on virtually anything. Lips, under eyes, cheeks, a chapped nose during cold season (though you may want to have one stick dedicated just to that!). It is easy to take for moisturizing on the go.

Herbivore Botanicals makes gorgeous luxury clean skincare products that are also all packaged in glass!

• Herbivore Moon Fruit Night Treatment

  • This is a super luxurious nighttime moisturizer. It is thick, but absorbs quickly. It is a fun color and has a unique scent!

• Herbivore Lapis Facial Oil

  • This facial oil contains my all time favorite skincare ingredient: blue tansy! It is a superstar at calming redness and acne. It is super nourishing! I like to use it at night, because (like most oils) it doesn’t absorb into skin very quickly.

• Follain Clean Essentials Kit

  • This kit is a great introduction to the clean beauty world. You can test out some of my favorite brands (Ursa Major & OSEA) as well as Indie Lee and Follain’s very own brand! These miniature sized products are also super convenient for travel.

Clean Make-up Products

• W3LL PEOPLE Liquid Eyeliner

  • I am really picky about eyeliner, and this one pleasantly surprised me! It glides on really smoothly (it has a felt tip applicator) and lasts all day.

• Cocokind Highlighter Sticks – Chagaglo, Mai-light, and Sunrei

  • These highlight/contour sticks are so convenient, easy to use, and affordable. You can see how I use all 3 of these sticks in the video below:

These products work really well for me and my combination, acne-prone skin, but most are suitable for all skin types!
