Since becoming a Plant Therapy affiliate, I’ve started growing my collection of essential oils and experimenting with all kinds of new DIY products!
One thing I’d been wanting to create is a pillow mist (or “sleep spray,” if you wish), that can be spritzed onto your pillow before you go to bed. I used to have a lavender one from Bath & Body Works’ aromatherapy line that I loved, and I figured it wouldn’t be too hard to recreate.
Two of my newest essential oils that I’m super exited about are marjoram and clary sage, both of which can be helpful sleep aids. And of COURSE I included lavender because, let’s face it, not only is it super calming and relaxing, but it smells divine.
DIY Pillow Mist
What you need:
- Glass spray bottle (something like this one) – I used a 2 oz one
- Distilled water
- Witch hazel (I use Thayer’s) – you want to choose one that contains alcohol because it helps
- 10-20 drops essential oils (I used marjoram, clary sage, and lavender)
- Other great bedtime oils include: Roman Chamomile, Vetiver, and Bergamot
What to do:
- Mix 1 part distilled water to 1 part witch hazel (so in a 2 oz spray bottle, it would be 1 oz water and 1 oz witch hazel)
- Depending on how many different essential oils you’re using, divide up the number of drops to add
- You can split them up evenly, or use less drops of overpowering smells
- Shake before each use
- The witch hazel helps keep the essential oils from separating from the rest of the mixture, but a good shake is still helpful!
- Spray on pillow for a good night’s sleep!
Sweet dreams!
[…] not kidding – I kinda wanna get Otis the goat for myself. I use an aromatherapy pillow mist to sleep at night, but putting a few drops of the same oils in this little guy would be way more […]
