I like to DIY my skincare products because:
- You know exactly what’s going into them
- It’s cheaper in the long run
- It’s more environmentally friendly because you can keep reusing the bottles you store them in
This facial cleanser was one of the first skincare products I ever DIYed and it’s what got me hooked on homemade! After the very first time using this cleanser, I couldn’t stop rubbing my hands on my face. It was SO SMOOTH. (Little side note – you should really try to avoid touching your face – your fingers are covered in dirt and germs that will clog up your pores. But I dare you to use this facial cleanser and not enjoy touching your face just a little).
It’s a simple recipe with just a few ingredients, but it’s so effective due to its astringent and anti-inflammatory properties!
All-Natural Facial Cleanser
Ingredients:
- 1 cup liquid castile soap
- I use Dr. Bronner’s unscented, but as I mentioned with the hand soap you can choose an already scented castile soap (like peppermint, almond, lavender, eucalyptus, rose, tea tree, or citrus) & skip adding essential oils
- 1/2 cup distilled water, hydrosol, or herbal tea
- Chamomile and rose hydrosols are great for dry/aging skin
- Rosemary and peppermint hydrosols are great for oily/acne prone skin
- Lavender and ylang ylang hydrosols are great for all skin types
- 10-15 drops essential oils
- Tea tree essential oil is antiviral, anti-fungal, great for acne!
- Lavender essential oil is anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, also great for acne!
- Frankincense essential oil is astringent, antiseptic and great for anti-aging!
- Geranium essential oil is anti-inflammatory, astringent, and great for oily skin!
- Optional: 1 Tbsp of a nourishing oil (grape seed, jojoba, coconut, almond etc.)
- Optional: 1 Tbsp of aloe vera gel
- Optional: A few drops vitamin e oil
- 1 glass pump bottle (glass is preferable if using essential oils, as they will eat away at plastic)
Instructions:
Combine all ingredients and shake to combine. Use morning and night by pumping onto clean hands and gently circling them over face. Rinse off with warm water.
Please refer to my earlier post for tips & tricks of working with essential oils. I love using tea tree oil in my facial cleanser because it is so great for fighting acne, but it can be very drying on sensitive skin. Make sure to test a bit of the solution on your inner elbow before using on face.
